>> Short-term category
Examples of the short-term category of activities, which the Centre will embark upon
immediately after take-off, are:
1. Publication of a calendar of market days in Osun State, to be expanded within a year
to cover two other neighbouring states and, eventually, all Yoruba states. This is
based on the fact that Yoruba markets are not just commercial institutions but also
socio-cultural institutions.
2. Work on and eventual publication of a calendar of Yoruba festivals, again starting
with Osun State.
3. Work on and eventual publication of Yoruba royal festivals and ritual (plus the
calendar).
4. The Centre will start supporting local/indigenous artists through interactions,
exposure and exhibitions.
5. The Centre will also initiate a plan of exhibition of arts and artists from other
Nigerian, African and non-African societies.
6. The Centre will regularly organize book fairs (books in Yoruba and on Yoruba culture
and society in any language).
7. The Centre will initiate a plan for periodic invitation of musicians from other black
cultures.
8. Regular invitation of musicians and artists from other societies/countries.
9. Promotion of cultural exchanges between Nigeria and other African countries
(Nigerians know more about Europe and America than about their nearest neighbours
north, east, south and west).
The short-term activities will of course vary from time to time, especially on specifics. |
